Vishnu Dashavatar Talapattachitra

This artwork presents a detailed depiction of the Dashavatara (Ten Incarnations of Lord Vishnu) rendered in the traditional form of Talapattachitra, a distinctive variation of Pattachitra practiced on palm leaves. Rooted in Bengal’s storytelling traditions, this art form translates sacred narratives into finely etched compositions that unfold through structure, symmetry and precision. The ten incarnations represented in this composition include Matsya (the fish), Kurma (the tortoise), Varaha (the boar), Narasimha (the man-lion), Vamana (the dwarf), Parashurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha and Kalki. Created on carefully prepared palm leaves, the surface is cut, treated, and stitched together before being intricately engraved using fine tools.
