Originating from the historic silk weaving clusters of Murshidabad, the Garad (also known as Garod) saree is one of Bengal’s most timeless and culturally rooted textiles. Traditionally woven in undyed silk with signature red borders, this interpretation presents a refined dyed mulberry silk variation, preserving the essence of heritage while introducing a subtle contemporary depth.
The pallu of this saree is defined by rhythmic linear arrangements, where delicate stripes and repeating paisley-inspired motifs flow across the fabric in harmonious symmetry. The design remains minimal yet evocative, allowing the weave and motif repetition to speak with quiet elegance rather than excess ornamentation. Handwoven using fine mulberry silk yarns, the fabric carries a smooth, lightweight texture with a graceful fall. The closely set weave enhances durability while maintaining softness, making it ideal for long ceremonial wear. The subtle sheen of silk adds a gentle luminosity, elevating the saree without overwhelming its simplicity.
The legacy of Murshidabad silk dates back to the eighteenth century during Mughal patronage, when the region emerged as a flourishing centre of silk production under Nawab Murshidkuli Khan. Today, this heritage continues through skilled artisans who preserve the integrity of the craft across generations. Part of our PARINOY collection, where Parinoy signifies wedding in Bengali, this saree is designed for intimate ceremonies, traditional rituals and moments that value understated elegance. It embodies the quiet grace of a Bengali bride, where simplicity meets cultural depth. Timeless, refined and deeply symbolic, the Garad silk saree remains a wardrobe essential for those who appreciate heritage minimalism and handcrafted authenticity.
