This artwork presents a vibrant composition of fish motifs rendered in the traditional style of Bengal Pattachitra, a hand-painted folk art known for its intricate detailing and symbolic storytelling. The repeating pattern of fish, arranged in a rhythmic and dynamic layout, reflects abundance, fertility and prosperity motifs deeply rooted in Bengal’s cultural and visual language. Hand-painted by skilled Patua artists, the panel features bold outlines, intricate patterning and a rich interplay of colours from deep blues and greens to warm reds and yellows. Each fish is uniquely stylised, creating a lively, almost textile-like composition that is both decorative and expressive. The central motif subtly draws attention, adding narrative depth to the otherwise rhythmic repetition.

Created on pata (treated cloth or paper), the surface is prepared using natural chalk and plant-based binders, allowing pigments to settle into a soft, matte finish. The use of organic colours derived from natural sources such as conch shells and plant extracts lends the artwork a timeless vibrancy and artisanal authenticity. Framed and ready to display, the elongated horizontal format makes it ideal for feature walls, corridors, above seating spaces, or console areas. Subtle irregularities highlight its handmade nature marks of authenticity that distinguish it from machine-made reproductions.
